KJV : Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
YLT : And concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that we all have knowledge: knowledge puffeth up, but love buildeth up;
RV : Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.
RSV : Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge." "Knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up.
ASV : Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.
ESV : Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge." This "knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up.
ERVEN : Now I will write about meat that is sacrificed to idols. We know that "we all have knowledge," as you say. But this knowledge puffs a person up with pride, while love helps the church grow stronger.

KJV : And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
YLT : and if any one doth think to know anything, he hath not yet known anything according as it behoveth [him] to know;
RV : If any man thinketh that he knoweth anything, he knoweth not yet as he ought to know;
RSV : If any one imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
ASV : If any man thinketh that he knoweth anything, he knoweth not yet as he ought to know;
ESV : If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
ERVEN : Whoever thinks they know something does not yet know anything as they should.
3
KJV : But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
YLT : and if any one doth love God, this one hath been known by Him.
RV : but if any man loveth God, the same is known of him.
RSV : But if one loves God, one is known by him.
ASV : but if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.
ESV : But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.
ERVEN : But whoever loves God is known by God.
4
KJV : As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] none other God but one.
YLT : Concerning the eating then of the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one;
RV : Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is {cf15i anything} in the world, and that there is no God but one.
RSV : Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that "an idol has no real existence," and that "there is no God but one."
ASV : Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no God but one.
ESV : Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that "an idol has no real existence," and that "there is no God but one."
ERVEN : So this is what I say about eating meat: We know that an idol is really nothing in the world, and we know that there is only one God.
5
KJV : For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
YLT : for even if there are those called gods, whether in heaven, whether upon earth -- as there are gods many and lords many --
RV : For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many;
RSV : For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth -- as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords" --
ASV : For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many;
ESV : For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth- as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"-
ERVEN : It's really not important if there are things called gods in heaven or on earth—and there are many of these "gods" and "lords" out there.
6
KJV : But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.
YLT : yet to us [is] one God, the Father, of whom [are] the all things, and we to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom [are] the all things, and we through Him;
RV : yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.
RSV : yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
ASV : yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.
ESV : yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
ERVEN : For us there is only one God, and he is our Father. All things came from him, and we live for him. And there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ. All things were made through him, and we also have life through him.
7
MOV : എന്നാൽ എല്ലാവരിലും ഈ അറിവില്ല. ചിലർ ഇന്നുവരെ വിഗ്രഹപരിചയം ഹേതുവായി വിഗ്രഹാർപ്പിതം എന്നുവെച്ചു തിന്നുന്നു;
KJV : Howbeit [there is] not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat [it] as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
YLT : but not in all men [is] the knowledge, and certain with conscience of the idol, till now, as a thing sacrificed to an idol do eat [it], and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
RV : Howbeit in all men there is not that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as {cf15i of} a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
RSV : However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through being hitherto accustomed to idols, eat food as really offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
ASV : Howbeit there is not in all men that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
ESV : However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
ERVEN : But not all people know this. Some have had the habit of worshiping idols. So now when they eat meat, they still feel as if it belongs to an idol. They are not sure that it is right to eat this meat. So when they eat it, they feel guilty.
8
KJV : But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
YLT : But victuals do not commend us to God, for neither if we may eat are we in advance; nor if we may not eat, are we behind;
RV : But meat will not commend us to God: neither, if we eat not, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.
RSV : Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.
ASV : But food will not commend us to God: neither, if we eat not, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.
ESV : Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.
ERVEN : But food will not bring us closer to God. Refusing to eat does not make us less pleasing to God, and eating does not make us closer to him.
9
KJV : But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
YLT : but see, lest this privilege of yours may become a stumbling-block to the infirm,
RV : But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to the weak.
RSV : Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
ASV : But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to the weak.
ESV : But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
ERVEN : But be careful with your freedom. Your freedom to eat anything may make those who have doubts about what they can eat fall into sin.
10
KJV : For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
YLT : for if any one may see thee that hast knowledge in an idol`s temple reclining at meat -- shall not his conscience -- he being infirm -- be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to idols,
RV : For if a man see thee which hast knowledge sitting at meat in an idol-s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
RSV : For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols?
ASV : For if a man see thee who hast knowledge sitting at meat in an idols temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
ESV : For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols?
ERVEN : You understand that it's all right to eat anything, so you can eat in an idol's temple. But someone who has doubts might see you eating there, and this might encourage them to eat meat sacrificed to idols too. But they really think it is wrong.
11
KJV : And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
YLT : and the brother who is infirm shall perish by thy knowledge, because of whom Christ died?
RV : For through thy knowledge he that is weak perisheth, the brother for whose sake Christ died.
RSV : And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died.
ASV : For through thy knowledge he that is weak perisheth, the brother for whose sake Christ died.
ESV : And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died.
ERVEN : So this weak brother or sister— someone Christ died for—is lost because of your better understanding.
12
KJV : But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
YLT : and thus sinning in regard to the brethren, and smiting their weak conscience -- in regard to Christ ye sin;
RV : And thus, sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, ye sin against Christ.
RSV : Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
ASV : And thus, sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, ye sin against Christ.
ESV : Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
ERVEN : When you sin against your brothers and sisters in Christ in this way and you hurt them by causing them to do things they feel are wrong, you are also sinning against Christ.
13
KJV : Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
YLT : wherefore, if victuals cause my brother to stumble, I may eat no flesh -- to the age -- that my brother I may not cause to stumble.
RV : Wherefore, if meat maketh my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh for evermore, that I make not my brother to stumble.
RSV : Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall.
ASV : Wherefore, if meat causeth my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh for evermore, that I cause not my brother to stumble.
ESV : Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.
ERVEN : So if the food I eat makes another believer fall into sin, I will never eat meat again. I will stop eating meat, so that I will not make my brother or sister sin.
